Meet The Makers:
The Green Kiss
Megan Johns: Megan is the founder and owner of The Green Kiss, one of Canada’s leading online retailers of natural and effective beauty with a local beauty bar located in downtown Victoria. She has created a space, both online and in store, where smart, genuine and authentic women come together to effortlessly make the switch to effective natural beauty. Megan’s interest and experience with natural products started back in 2004 when she began working for her family's chain of organic clothing stores here in beautiful British Columbia. It was this experience that taught her the importance of doing business in a 'better way'. She learned that a consumer's strongest voice can often be found in the power of their own wallet, and that creating her own values based business was truly her life's passion and calling. After reading the book 'Not Just A Pretty Face', she became hungry for change in the beauty industry. Marrying her love of 'girly' with her love of healthy products, and after years of planning, product testing and research, Megan launched The Green Kiss in December of 2011. Carly Flints : Carly has been immersed in the world of beauty for the past decade. She has worked with some of the biggest international brands in the industry including MAC, Lancome, and Smashbox. Her journey towards green beauty started in 2013 when she partnered with The Green Kiss for a photo shoot in Montreal. In May of 2015 she was hired for an in store event at our downtown Victoria beauty bar, and to put it simply, she never left. Witnessing first hand how 'making the switch' can change someone's skin (and life really) truly opened her eyes. She has made it her mission to convert her entire freelance kit to clean beauty and help conventional beauty lovers to effortlessly make the switch and never look back.
Woodlot
Sonya Chhinji: Sonya is the co-founder of Woodlot, a boutique line of home, bath and body products based in Vancouver BC. Team Woodlot is steeped in family tradition and with keeping future generations in mind, they design their candles using clean-burning, petroleum-free coconut wax. The maker’s movement is in wide demand, something that Sonia Chhinji believes is the innate desire to make things with our own hands. Her partner, Fouad, introduced her to soap making after he had decided he could no longer handle the irritation of conventional products. Together they started looking further into what was really going into their every day products and in the end started making their own. Since their launch in 2014, Woodlot now offers a selection of candles, soaps, bath salts and floral mists. Every product is made in small batches with specially-selected ingredients from near and afar. The company has seen phenomenal growth since its launch, and with it’s high demand, woodlot continues to secure retailers around the globe. Learn more at www.shopwoodlot.com
